2018 was a really great year! Between photographing 15 weddings, two out of State weddings – which means girls weekends away, being featured on a podcast, a bridal fair and attending a networking event, second shooting for Anny Photography and more that wasn’t documented. A year full of adventure and a year full of documenting some of the best weddings for some of the sweetest couples! Oh and of course documenting a ton of portrait sessions but I don’t have anyone with me so I don’t ever have any behind the scenes images from those. This might be becoming my favorite blog post and I don’t plan on ever stopping. Its the second year I’ve done it and it makes me want to make sure we’re capturing more behind the scenes shots at each wedding! I hope you guys love this blog post as much as I do and as much as my girls do as well.
I thought we’d start out where all wedding days start out, shooting the details! This first set of three are the behind the scenes from Rachael & Billy’s wedding, check out their blog post to see the resulting images.
Angel captured this shot at Lauren & Mike’s wedding.
Now onto the good stuff, silly faces we make at each other and manage to capture! Let me reintroduce you to the girls. Below is Sam. She’s typically my assistant but is coming on more and more as a second shooter. This year, in 2019 you’ll actually get to see her in a different light – as a bride! She’s my first wedding in 2019 and I can not wait for it!
Christine is on the right! She’s pretty much always my second shooter unless the date doesn’t work with her schedule. This year, she’s also going to be a bride but she’s getting married in Tennessee and hired a local photographer down there.
Ok so technically only the first two images are dance moves and the last three is Sam & Chris singing! But like I’ve told you guys before, you ask us to be there, we will stand on the sidelines of the reception and dance. It won’t be good dancing, but we’re having fun!
So these next two groupings make up the bulk of the behind the scenes! We constantly use each other as models to test the lighting in each scene so when the couple comes in we can start shooting right away and not miss a shot. Of course, since we do this so often, we have to make it interesting!
I’ll be honest, in this shot. I accidentally blinded Sam with the flash. She was looking at it to adjust it and I hit the shutter and the flash was at its highest power and well…she saw squares for a while. Sorry girl!!
That time we shot a wedding in NYC at the Sunset Terrace! Can we please go back ASAP!! Check out Eunbi & Austin’s wedding here.
This past year, Sam was the baby whisperer!
Part of the wedding day is working with other vendors and this past year we had the chance to work with some of the best in the business! Especially some of the best videographers.
Here’s Brooks from BE Videography. Check out his video from Kyle & Julie’s wedding here.
Here’s Ian from Ian J. Bell. We worked together in 2017 as well and I hope we’ll work together more in 2019!
This is Mark! Mark is part of Great Scott Productions DJ team. There is no other options for DJs. Promise. Just call Scott and have him or Mark at your wedding and you will not be disappointed!!
Here’s Sara from Nouvelle Weddings, she was absolutely amazing to work with!
The incredible team from Pearl Productions vacuuming up the confetti. Rachael and her girls threw some confetti and of course, it created quite the mess in the exact spot that we envisioned Rachael putting her wedding dress on it. So the boys found a vacuum and solved the problem real fast!
Those epic shots of the dresses laid full out and all gorgeous doesn’t happen by itself! It requires some expert dress fluffing!
Oh and we’re also professional dress bustlers! We actually love to time ourselves and see how fast we can get it done. I think this year we’re going to have to keep a record and see what our best time is.
Now for those moments where I make terrible, unsafe decisions to stand on things to get the shot. But also good decisions like taking off my shoes and walking through water for the shot. Providing direction on where to stand for the bridal party based off the ceremony line up using the ceremony program. We do all the extra things for you guys to make the day run better and to get that perfect shot for you! Fixing your veils and carrying all the things (Sam is a pro at this!).
One of my brides wanted her wax seal as part of her details. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a match to melt the wax, so I used the curling iron to melt the wax and it actually worked ingeniously! Christine’s working her magic and fixing the veil.
A wedding day wouldn’t be complete without selfies!
Selfie with everyone after Julianna & Jerad’s engagement portraits to include the girls from Furever & Fur Always.
Here’s Angel! She really only second shoots with me when the wedding falls on a Friday. She’s incredible!
All the selfies while second shooting for Anny Photography. Here’s where I see Angel the most, she assistants Ann all the time when I’m second shooting.
I didn’t grab as many captures of us in the photo booth as much as I did last year, but I promise, we still got in every single photobooth!
Now for some behind the scenes for business in general! First up, the bridal fair with The Lodges At Gettysburg. I’ll be back there again this year, come see me! March 2nd & 3rd.
That time we shot a two weddings in one weekend and both were in two different states. We first captured Miranda & Shaun’s wedding at Overhills Mansion and then that night at 9:30pm we hit the road and headed for New York City! This is what three girls headed to the city and working two weddings looks like when you pack the car.
While in NYC we ate lunch at The Pennsy and ended up sharing a table with Victoria Summer.
One of my goals for 2019 is to get out there and attend more networking events. Last year I attended my first, Cake & Whiskey at the Anthem House with two dear friends. Meaghan from Fleurt Beauty Company and Caroline from The Voice Collection.
Then I had the blast of being featured on 4 episodes of Gloss Over. A podcast created by Meaghan and Caroline. If you haven’t listened to my episodes or any of their episodes, head to the site here and listen. They’re a good time!!
