Rachael and Billy’s Shawnee Inn Wedding fell on a crisp fall day in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. With details of gold, greenery, and ivory the day’s details were given the absolute closest attention. Rachael even included one of Billy’s favorite things, baseball, through small little details throughout the day. See if you can find them. But so much more importantly, the details that really mattered were given the ultimate attention. Who would marry them? Their mutual friend who introduced them of course. What dress would Rachael wear? One she picked out for herself and the same dress that Mom & paternal Grandmother wore for their weddings. What gift should Rachael give her dad? A pair of cufflinks that included a piece of the lace from the same wedding dress she would wear during the ceremony. That same dress that his wife wore when they got married and the same dress his mom wore when his parents got married. What should she get her groom? Cufflinks in the shape of a baseball diamond and made out of old Yankee Stadium seats! How awesome is that?! The day was full of details like that. Details that focused on the family involved and the heart behind this marriage.
As I watch and capture these days unfold, there are moments that stand out to me. The moment where the officiant, their mutual friend, Billy’s lifelong friend, started to talk about Billy. How proud of him he is and as he’s mid-speech you can hear the emotion in his voice. Girls getting emotional about each other is pretty standard on a wedding day but when the men get emotional about each other, my heart melts and I also get choked up! One of my favorite pieces of advice I have ever heard was given during their best man’s speech. His advice, “don’t listen to other people’s advice.” Do your marriage in the way that works for you two. If going to bed angry is what’s healthier for your marriage because that means that you get rest and can tackle the problem with a level head and calmer attitude then do that. Just because something works for one couple, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. As long as you’re both happy, healthy and communicating, you’re good! I can not agree with this advice more after 4 years of marriage, this was such an encouraging piece of advice for me, so I hope it is for everyone else reading this!!
It was a beautiful day for an incredibly sweet couple! Congratulations Rachael & Billy!
