Dillon got down on one knee. The sky was overcast, the lake was still. Three year old Mia stood in front of him. He spoke quietly so only she could hear him. Kim, her mom, stood just a foot away watching her two favorite people together. Dillon pulled a large jewelry box out of his back pocket and opened it up. Inside was a gold necklace with a tiny diamond gold ring strung along it. This way once Mia was old enough, they could get it sized to fit her finger but for now, she could wear it around her neck. She was quietly excited in the moment, just as most three year olds would be. Not quite sure what to do with this shiny object that seems to have a different level of special to it. The plan was for Dillon to stay down on his knee and be able to look right up and see Kim standing there and pull out her box. However, Mia walked over to me to show me the ring and Kim followed her. After a few moments of ohs over Mia’s new ring, I suggested that we grab a portrait of just Kim and Dillon. Kim had no idea. For her, this moment was just about this man who not only fell in love with her but also fell so in love with her daughter that he bought her a piece of jewelry to represent that love. Little did she know she had her own piece of jewelry to represent the same thing coming. They stood in front of that still lake. We could hear bikers coming and families playing off in the distance. Dillon started talking to Kim and as he spoke you could see the lightbulb go off. Kim was starting to get what this moment was. I furiously clicked away as the emotion for them both unfolded. Mia, was totally unfazed by what was happening and lived in her little world of brand new gold jewelry and diamond rings. After spending what felt like an eternity for me, I’m sure even longer for Dillon, Kim finally said yes and he slipped that ring on her finger. We spent the second half of their Lake Elkhorn Proposal and Family Portraits, reminiscing about the moment, everything that led up to it, all the people that already know this was coming and how Dillon and I came up with the plan.

Dillon, Kim and Mia, Congratulations!! You three are absolutely adorable together and I know you already know but you are all so blessed by each other. You automatically became a family a year ago when you met and I can only imagine how excited you all are to officially become one. Dillon, thank you for asking me to capture this moment for you. It was an honor to be there for you! I wish you three the best that life has to offer and all the joy in the world!
