James stood facing the wall of windows. We stood in the outdoor garden space of the Hyatt House. A river fountain ran around us as it shaped the building, flowers sprung up in the midst of it. As Elizabeth approached, carrying her ivory and green flower bouquet, her tulle lace dress graced the boardwalk underfoot. She approached the back of James. As she got closer, the tears became more prevalent. When she was finally in arms reach, she tapped James on the right shoulder. James slowly spun around and pure joy struck across his face. His jaw dropped, as he exclaimed, “Oh my god, you’re perfect! Oh my god!” His clasped hands, came to his face, “You are perfect.” Within seconds he pulled Elizabeth in with such force that Elizabeth later recounted their bodies slamming together. I’ve seen alot of first looks in my seven years of business as a wedding photographer, James and Elizabeth’s DC War Memorial Wedding’s first look was the first I personally teared up for.
James and Elizabeth were supposed to be married out of state in May with James’ big huge family present. But when Covid arrived, all those plans changed. Instead, of allowing Covid to win, they shifted gears and planned a small intimate wedding in less than three months here in Washington DC. Their Del Mar De Fabio Trabocchi reception hosted 16 people, their closest friends and family members.
Elizabeth and James, thank you so much for having me be there to capture your day and for welcoming Christine and I into your celebration and families for the day. We both truly felt so welcomed by you both and your families. Elizabeth, thank you so much for your kind words as we sat in the cab. Hearing that I was the best decision you made while wedding planning, my heart is so full of gratitude for such a small simple statement on your behalf. But it means the world to me. I am so glad that I could be there for you both! I am so excited to watch your marriage grow, blossom and flourish as I know God has ordained it. Just knowing the two of you for the short amount of time that I have as we have planned your wedding, it is evident to me, that your marriage is going to shape more lives than I believe you can even imagine.
