I sat scrolling through instagram. It was about two and half months after I had met this sweet family for their in-home newborn portraits in Columbia. My right thumb scrolling. Occasionally double tapping and even sometimes stopping long enough for a quick comment. Then I was stopped in my tracks. There in that little 4×5 frame sat a beautiful little face. Evelyn’s portrait from two months before. Under it, that’s what really stopped me.
Pam, Evelyn’s new mom wrote, “Need a cure for a case of the Quarantine Monday’s? Here’s what I have to offer… We are overjoyed to finally, officially announce that Evelyn Jane has joined our family! While 2020 has gotten off to a rough start for us all, 2019 was by far the worst year for our family. We suffered 2 disrupted adoptions, one of which was a nightmare adoption scam. We suffered and grieved and questioned if we could continue on in this 2nd adoption journey. We have always said that adoption is a sacrificial gift of love on so many levels, so we persevered in love and faith that this is what we were called to do. And, in an answer to so many uttered prayers, this girl burst into our lives and our hearts on 12/31/19, just like the little firecracker we now know her to be. In one beautiful moment, all of the pain and suffering of last year was finally redeemed. We received her final adoption decree just this morning and we couldn’t be more grateful today for the very real reminder that beauty does come from the ashes and that true sacrificial love can change everything.”
Segerson family, I can’t thank you enough! Thank you for welcoming me into your home. For sharing your stories with me. For reading Little Blue Truck with me. For laughing with me. For trusting me. It was such an honor to be there for you guys and capture your new perfect little family. Congratulations again!
