We walked down the thin white hallway into the nursery for Brody’s Locust Point Baltimore Newborn Portraits. “We’d really love to get a portrait of Brody laying in his crib. His modern white crib sat in front of dark tropical green accent wall. “The blanket was made Brian’s mom.” The mattress was wrapped in a quilt like blanket. But instead of the patchwork being made of random pieces of fabric, it was made from shirts. Redskins adorned the top right corner. Plaid and stripe squares to the right and below it. A heather grey square in the middle. A dad sock was sown on top the one striped square. This quilt meant more than just a family member’s time. This quilt was made from Brian’s dad’s shirts. His dad never had the chance to met Brody. Documenting Brody snuggled in on his old shirts was the closest the two would ever come. It will never be close enough.

These are the moments and the reasons I get behind the camera. These are the portraits that remind me of my why. It’s so easy to get lost in the pretty. To get lost in the details and the wow factor of shoots. Whether those are the details of a wedding day or the details of a nursery. These moments. These details though, the ones that are simple but hold the most meaning. These are the ones that I love to capture.

Brian and Shana, congratulations! Brody is so incredibly sweet and he’s just adorable. Thank you for sharing your story with me and asking me to capture such important moments for you. I hope I did your first weeks as a new family justice. I hope your mom is able to find some peace and comfort in the images of Brody with your dad’s shirts.
