As I walked up the hill toward the Nature Center, a dark woodsy shade laid over the area where the Blaha family stood waiting for me. Just beyond it was a large beautifully lit wooden bridge. I knew that was exactly where I wanted to start their Oregon Ridge Nature Center Family Portraits. There’s a little trick in the theatre word for live shows, if cast members are supposed to be talking in a scene, it’s advised that they say “watermelon”. It makes it appear as though you’re having real conversation and even will sometimes evoke moments of laughter. When the Blaha girls were slightly reserved to a brand new person with a camera in their face, as most children their ages are, I shared with them this little tid bit. We began to practice and as soon as I instructed them to start walking and chatting watermelon, everyone loosened up. Which of course resulted in some really fantastic laughs and family moments. Watermelon remained to be part of their Oregon Ridge Nature Center Family Portraits and even became a bit of a joke.
Kerry found me through her neighbors, the Baummer family. With their yearly portraits in mind, Kerry had visions for her own family portraits. I’m pretty confident to say, we were able to capture some of those same sweet moments and emotions and someday I’m sure the Blaha family will become the Baummer family for another future client. We were blessed with a gorgeous September morning, that makes us all dream of fall days to come. Light cool temperatures with sun that keeps you warm without making you sweat. Quiet moments despite the business of Oregon Ridge Park.
Kerry, thank you for asking me to capture these moments for your incredibly sweet family! Mike, thank you for being the dog wrangler and caring for your fur babies as much as you do for your girls. Girls, thank you for opening up, getting comfortable and chatting with me. Thank you for answering all of my silly little questions about breakfast, oatmeal, cotton cereal, school, favorite shows and movies. You three did an absolute wonderful job modeling for the camera, you guys should be professionals!
