Shawn opened the front door. He was on the phone, so without a word, we hugged and I walked in behind him. Sam yelled from the bathroom. She was finishing her hair and makeup. Shawn walked me over to the couch. It’s right there in their front room. A large grey L-shaped couch. The light pouring in from the big bay window. There on the couch laid the DockATot. There on top, swaddled, all cozy, laid Madeline. Those chunky pudgy cheeks. That tiny 7 pound body. Those big beautiful eyes. Our girl was here. Without pause, I scooped that little nugget up. In that moment, Jack felt huge to me. It’s amazing to me how our muscles hold memory. My muscles expected, as I looked at this baby, to lift a 20 lb lunker. My muscles were ready for it. But instead, they were greeted with the a lightness that my heart misses. Sam walked out of the bathroom. We hugged with a new excitement. We’re now sharing the mama road together. As we walked down the hallway to Maddie’s nursery, Sam filled me in on all the birth story details. As we changed Maddie into her first outfit for her Frederick Newborn Portraits, Sam asked post partum mama advice. We talked night feedings. We talked husbands turned dads. We talked family meetings. We talked the hard stuff and praised all the good stuff! It was an extra special in-home newborn portrait session.
Sam and Shawn, I am so beyond excited for the two of you! I’m ecstatic that we get to walk the parenting road together and raise our babies together. Thank you for asking me to capture these for you and trusting me with this moment in life. Maddie. Sweet Maddie girl, you rocked your first session! As I expected you would. You snuggled mama and daddy so well and posed really well for the camera. I am so blessed to get the opportunity to watch you grow up.
