We sat at the beach house anxiously waiting for the phone call. My mother in law kept asking if we thought it was ok to call, “we should’ve heard from them by now..what’s taking so long? I can’t stand this waiting.” We cooked up some dinner to keep us preoccupied while we waited for that ring. Then finally. Finally it rang, Kyle and Brenda had us on speaker phone. Kim answered the phone and completely missed Brenda’s excited “hello Grandma!” and asked, “Soooo? Do we have a baby?!” After a year or so of trying, they got the news, we got the news everyone had been waiting for. There was a baby! The family was growing!! But now…more waiting had to happen. 9 months of waiting for the baby to arrive, 9 months of waiting to figure out the gender, 9 months to learn what it’s name would be?! It’s a little crazy how fast 9 months goes by. I’m not sure Brenda would agree with that, especially in those last two weeks, that baby was comfy in there and had no problem going the full 42 weeks. Waiting, waiting and more waiting. And then…the morning of April 15th rolled around, Nick & I woke up to the text from a very excited brand new daddy, “boy”. We have a baby boy in the family…but what’s his name? What does he look like? When was he born? How big is he? These are the questions that go through the female brain…apparently not the male brain. Nick didn’t really ask & Kyle didn’t share in that exact moment, that exact moment that I so wanted that information(that moment that I just didn’t have any patience anymore haha). I headed to work anxious and excited and so very ready to hear all about my nephew! Then the pictures came in, Klive Franklin Schoeneman and he was the cutest little newborn ever. I feel in love immediately, but I mean who doesn’t automatically fall in love with their nephew. Especially the nephew that makes them an aunt. But now…now I had to wait TWO MORE weeks till we could get up to Pennsylvania to meet the little man.
We knocked on the door, Kyle answered with Klive asleep in his arms. I lasted about two minutes before taking him. The sweetest little guy with long fingers and big ol feet and a cute button nose. We spent Tuesday night at their house as a big family of now 9 and then Wednesday morning that little man rocked his first (of many many) photoshoots. He made his photographer auntie a very very proud photographer auntie and then there’s Kyle & Brenda…man I could photograph those two all day. So photogenic and beautiful, well Kyle’s handsome 🙂 I got so incredibly lucky with my in-law family…they don’t even feel like in-laws. They’re just my family.
Brenda’s from Wisconsin, her family still lives out there and so she had a baby shower out there. Instead of it being a traditional shower where she would’ve received a bunch of gifts that she then would’ve had to figure out how to fly back or maybe ship back, they went a different route. They had a “blessingway“, where all the women in her life from Wisconsin came together and shared stories and mommy advice. One of the things they all did bring was a bead. Each person went out and picked out a bead to give her. At the shower they created this necklace that’s in the picture on the left, she was to wear it during labor as a blessing over her during the labor and a reminder that they’re there backing her up, even though they wouldn’t be able to physically be there. <3
